Ride To Bosnia – Discover Sarajevo and Mostar

Bosnia Highlights: 3-Day Motorcycle Itinerary
This itinerary is designed to highlight the main destinations in Bosnia and is ideal for those who have already explored Montenegro’s key attractions and want to spend more time discovering the surrounding region—particularly Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Thanks to the close proximity of major sights such as Sutjeska National Park, Sarajevo, and Mostar, you don’t need to travel far to experience the cultural and natural beauty of the area.
For those interested in a guided or self-guided tour, this itinerary can be customized and upgraded with quality accommodation to enhance the overall experience.
The entire route is fully paved, and for the best riding experience, we recommend a Yamaha Tracer 7 GT or Yamaha Tracer 9 GT.
LEVEL: Medium (long riding days)
Part 1: Tivat - Sutjeska national park - Sarajevo
Sarajevo is often skipped by motorcyclists, as big cities don’t usually attract much attention from riders. But if you’re a more relaxed traveler who’s interested in the cultural side of the Balkans, Sarajevo is definitely worth a visit.
The ride from Tivat takes around 5–6 hours, depending on traffic and border formalities. Along the way, you’ll enjoy beautiful scenic roads on both the Montenegrin and Bosnian sides. After crossing into Bosnia, you’ll pass by Sutjeska National Park, one of the oldest national parks in the country. Depending on the season, you’ll be treated to stunning views of mountains, rivers, and green valleys.
Arriving in Sarajevo in the afternoon gives you time to explore the city—especially Baščaršija, the historic old bazaar and cultural center of the city. This area is filled with traditional restaurants, small artisan shops, and Ottoman-era architecture.
In the evening, take a stroll through Sarajevo’s atmospheric downtown, where the combination of lights, history, and local life creates a truly special experience.

Part 2: Sarajevo - Konjic - Tomislavgrad - Mostar
Today you’ll head toward one of the most popular destinations in Bosnia and Herzegovina—Mostar.
While you could reach it quickly via the main highway, this route takes you on a more scenic countryside detour through Konjic, Jablanica, and Rama Lake, offering a richer riding experience.
Konjic is often overlooked by riders, but it’s worth a stop. Highlights include the Old Stone Bridge (Stari Most), a beautifully reconstructed Ottoman-era bridge, and the Tito’s Bunker, a secret underground atomic shelter built during the Yugoslav era (advance booking required for tours).
Further along, you’ll pass Jablanica, known for its historic WWII bridge and roasted lamb restaurants, then make a scenic detour toward Rama Lake (Ramsko jezero)—a stunning reservoir surrounded by green hills and a peaceful Franciscan monastery on a peninsula.
From there, continue toward Mostar via Tomislavgrad, adding more highland scenery to your ride.
Once in Mostar, take time to explore the Old Bazaar (Bazar) and walk to the iconic Stari Most (Old Bridge), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The atmosphere becomes even more charming in the evening when the crowds thin and the historic center is beautifully lit. If you’re too tired after the ride, a quiet early morning walk to the bridge is just as rewarding.
Part 3: Mostar - Blagaj - Kotor Bay - Tivat
Today, you’ll begin your return to Montenegro—but not without a final stop in Blagaj, a place known for its stunning natural setting and historical significance. The area, particularly the Blagaj Tekke (a 16th-century Dervish monastery built at the source of the Buna River), is incredibly scenic. However, it can get quite busy with tourists if you arrive later in the day, so an early stop is recommended.
From Blagaj, you’ll enjoy a scenic ride to Trebinje, a charming town near the Montenegrin border. After crossing back into Montenegro, you’ll continue along the coast, circling the famous Bay of Kotor.
Along the way, you’ll visit the picturesque towns of Perast and Kotor, both known for their rich history, beautiful architecture, and waterfront charm. Once back in Tivat, you’ll still have time to relax, enjoy the seaside atmosphere, or have dinner by the bay.
This trip offers a brief introduction to riding in Bosnia and Herzegovina, giving you a chance to experience motorcycle travel in an area that differs slightly from what Montenegro offers.
If you’d like to explore both Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina in more depth, consider a four- or five-day trip.
