To Albanian Alps and back (Theth and SH20/21)

Theth Albanian Alps

Two-Day Motorcycle Trip to Theth National Park via Scenic Routes

This two-day itinerary is designed for riders who want to cross into Albania, spend a night in the beautiful mountain landscape, and enjoy a collection of scenic, twisty roads along the way. While it works perfectly as a two-day trip, it can also be extended to three days with a short detour through Albania or Montenegro’s northern region.

The main highlight of this journey is Theth National Park, also known as the Albanian Alps. But the experience goes far beyond the destination — you’ll ride some of the most scenic roads in the region, including SH20 / SH21 in Albania and the iconic Kotor Serpentine in Montenegro.

Day 1: Tivat - Theth

You’ll start the day riding along Montenegro’s beautiful coastline before heading inland toward the mountains of Albania. This route offers stunning views of the Adriatic Sea, passing through Budva, Sveti Stefan, and the Old Town of Bar, where you can stop for lunch. From there, you’ll cross the border into Albania and climb into the mountains on a newly paved serpentine road.

It’s a relatively straightforward yet highly scenic riding day, with plenty of opportunities for photo stops and short breaks along the way. Expect around 5–6 hours of riding, depending on traffic, the number of stops, and border conditions.

Once you arrive in Theth, you’ll be surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery and a calm, remote atmosphere. Even though the distance isn’t extreme, the journey feels like a true adventure — a rewarding transition from the coast to the heart of the Albanian Alps.

Day 2: Theth – SH20 – Kotor Serpentine – Kotor Bay – Tivat

Today is a truly memorable riding day, leading you through a series of spectacular serpentine roads and panoramic viewpoints. You’ll begin in Theth, riding once again on SH21, before continuing onto SH20 and crossing the border back into Montenegro.

After entering Montenegro, the route takes you toward Skadar Lake and the country’s old royal capital, before climbing into Lovćen National Park. From there, you’ll descend via the famous Kotor Serpentine, offering breathtaking views over Kotor Bay.

If time allows, you can spend some time exploring Kotor Old Town. Otherwise, you’ll complete the journey with a scenic coastal ride around the bay, passing through small Venetian-era villages before returning to Tivat.

This day offers an outstanding overview of the region along the Montenegro–Albania border, combining mountain passes, historic landmarks, and coastal scenery into one exceptional ride.
