This itinerary is designed for those who want extensive exploring option around Durmitor National Park when traveling on a motorcycle. Very often travellers just go through the park, not knowing there are few roads which can show you non-touristic part of the park. Spending a day around the park, not only allows you to experiences difference altitudes, but also ride along the waters of Piva Lake, and sometimes climb to the snowy mountains of the Durmitor.

The route is fully paved and features plenty of curvy, scenic roads. For the best riding experience, we recommend a Yamaha Tracer 7 GT or Yamaha Tracer 9 GT.

Part 1: Zabljak - Bosnian Border
Starting from Žabljak, you’ll enter Durmitor National Park in an anticlockwise direction—one of the most exciting ways to explore this less-traveled region. Along the way, you’ll pass by ski lifts and head toward Sušičko Jezero (Dry Lake), experiencing a stunning mix of landscapes: from rugged rocky mountains to lush green forests, with frequent elevation changes adding to the thrill.
Some sections of the road can be technical, so ride with caution. Toward the end of this route, you’ll descend toward the Bosnian border and ride along the breathtaking turquoise waters of Piva Lake—a truly unforgettable sight.
This part of the park remains off the beaten path, meaning it’s quiet and rarely crowded, giving you a sense of solitude and connection with nature.
Part 2: Riding alongside Piva Lake
This 31 km stretch along Piva Lake offers everything a rider dreams of—twisting curves, dramatic tunnels, and panoramic views of turquoise waters. The route follows the old Yugoslav road and includes the iconic Mratinje Dam, one of the tallest dams in Europe.
Perfect for sport-touring and adventure riders, this scenic road combines natural beauty with an unforgettable riding experience, making it one of the top motorcycle routes in the Balkans.
At the end of the ride, you’ll reach Plužine, a charming small town that makes a perfect stop for lunch before continuing your journey.
Part 3: Pluzine to Zabljak
This is one of the most scenic and popular routes among motorcycle travelers. From Plužine, you’ll head towards the famous Sedlo Pass, but before reaching it, you’ll cross through Durmitor National Park and climb nearly 1,000 meters in elevation.
Along the way, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Piva Lake and witness the dramatic landscape changes within the park—from vast open fields to rugged, rocky mountains. This section of the park can get busy at times, so take it slow and savor every moment of this unforgettable ride.
